Indentureship
Apprentices are Indentured to the JLATA. Once your application is accepted into the Apprenticeship Program, the JLATA will register you with the Industry Training Authority (ITA) as your Sponsor.
Apprentice Responsibilities
Apprentices are responsible for ensuring they progress through the Apprenticeship Program smoothly by following the Apprentice responsibilities set out below.
Work-Based Training
About 80% of the Apprenticeship Program is work-based training. Apprentices will accumulate one hour of work-based training for each hour worked on the job with their Employer
Reporting Hours and Progress
Apprentices have access to the JLATA Member Database to track and record their progress and hours on the job
Technical Training
About 20% of the Apprenticeship Program is technical training. Technical training is met through block release training (full time at school) delivered by BC Hydro Trades Training Centre.
Recommendation
Once all required work-based hours, technical training and any other program requirements have been completed and you pass the Inter-provincial Red Seal Examination
Credentials Awarded
Certification as a Power Line Technician! When you successfully complete the Apprenticeship Program you are awarded Provincial and National Credentials and Certificates.
